Susan Bain, NTS Western Isles Manager, will give a ZOOM talk on "St Kilda and the U-boat". Her talk will look more closely at the impact of the military on St Kilda from the 18th century to today, including the vital role St Kilda played in the First World War.

- "Marriage Stones of the North" with Dr Jim Mackay.
Dr Jim Mackay of the Kirkmichael Trust will tell the romantic stories behind the marriage stones of the North, from the 1500s to modern times, with numerous beautiful images of their often extravagant carving. Many old houses, including NTS properties such as Brodie Castle, Abertarff House and Hugh Miller's Cottage, have fine examples, and most communities have at least one marriage stone.
- Monday 16th March 2026, 2.30pm in The Robertson Room, Culloden Visitor Centre
- "Historic Maps and Mapmaking" with Dr Roland Spencer-Jones
Roland Spencer-Jones is a former GP who has been immersed in archaeology and heritage since his retirement. He has a particular interest in landscape archaeology, i.e. how the land has been used over time. With an interest in historical maps, he ran a North of Scotland Archaeological Society (NOSAS) project in 2018 to digitise the maps of the Lovat Estate, resulting in over 300 new estate maps being uploaded to the National Library of Scotland. This talk will focus on the pre-Ordnance Survey maps of Scotland, focussing on the way that the land was surveyed and the maps constructed.

Tea/coffee/biscuits will be available at 10.00 a.m. followed, at 10.30 a.m., by a talk by Ms Annie MacDonald, Curator of Nairn Museum, an independent local museum, on the work of the Museum and some of the interesting artefacts to be found there.
