AYRSHIRE MEMBERS' CENTRE

The Ayrshire Members' Centre has a programme of meetings throughout the year. The programme for October 2011 to June 2012 is given below.

Talks are held in the Education Pavilion at Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway. There will be tea/coffee available at 7.00pm for £1.50 for those that wish it, followed by the talk at 7.30pm which will last around an hour.

All visitors are welcome at no cost.

Scott Davidson, "Roses Lace Mill" - the last lace mill in Ayrshire, its Scottish lace is manufactured on traditional Nottingham lace looms in the Irvine Valley.

New historical sites to visit! John will be in touch in December, looking for volunteers to show a few pictures and say a few words about a site of historical interest visited during this year. John will do any scanning and preparation needed.

Roger Watts (FRSGS), "South with the Scotia" - the Scotia, an ex-whaling ship rebuilt by the Ailsa Shipbuilding Company, sailed from Troon in 1902 carrying Dr W S Bruce and his party on a highly successful Scottish expedition to the Antarctic. This is the story of that historic voyage.
